It is equally difficult to broaden our perspectives and partake in experiences that breed creativity, especially when we are confined to our studios. This is why when June rolls around every year Skip packs up his supplies and heads to Maine.
Upon arriving in the northern most state of the US, you will feel like you have entered a new world. One that the hustle and bustle of our modern society has somehow passed by.
Things move slower in New Harbor and Pemaquid Point. People smile and wave as they pass on their evening walks, and the soothing sound of crashing waves replaces the drone of cars, co-workers, and BlackBerrys that dominate our daily lives. You won't find any Wal-Marts here, but rather the Reilly's general store. This quaint and friendly atmosphere only enhances the breathtaking scenery of the area. It's no surprise that Back Cove is one of the most painted spots in the US.
Once you have relaxed and taken in some of the beauty of the area you will be ready to paint. Class is held Monday through Friday at the Hotel Pemaquid. Students will meet in the Studio across the street from the hotel in the morning (around 9:00 am) where Skip will deliver a demonstration designed to open your mind and help you find your own unique style of painting.
Following this, students are given the majority of the day to put their creativity to work and paint, either at the studio or at one of the many local scenic locations. Everyone will meet back at the studio in the afternoon where Skip will critique the day's work for everyone's benefit. Don't worry, he won't be too hard on you!
Skip will give you the direction you need to produce expressive paintings and achieve the results you seek. He won't tell you how to paint your painting, but that is not the point of this workshop. He will show you the door to creative, expressive, and personal painting and throughout the course of this workshop you will prepare yourself to walk through it.
